Mini Blog Thought: The Allure of Sin

My parents live in Henderson, Nevada and from their backyard that sits up on a desert hill you can see the Strip of Las Vegas. At night it sparkles, shines and glitters, and you can't help but stare at the lights as they twinkle down below.
With the barren dessert hidden by darkness the city lights are somehow beautiful. However, during the day the city closely resembles what a forsaken cityscape built upon the moon might look like.
As I was sitting out on my parents patio the other night taking in all of the lights, I thought to myself "how many lives have been damaged or ruined in this city over the years? How many people have followed the allure of those lights and willingly submitted to their fleshly desires in the cities casinos, bars and strip joints?"

What Happens Here Doesn't Stay Here...

I am sure you have seen the commercials on television, "What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas". According to the scriptures, this isn't accurate:
"Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account" - Hebrews 4:13
It is interesting to me that in the 1950's Las Vegas was built-up in the middle of the dessert, literally hundreds of miles from the nearest major city, perhaps in an effort to hide from the rest of the then conservative American culture?

That is the sinful nature that we all have in us...we go to great lengths to hide our sins from others. We put on false fronts and try to let others think that our lives are in perfect order. But, the truth is, everyone struggles with sin to some degree.

Do you have any 'hidden' sins in your life? Sins that you think no one else knows about? I promise you that God knows about them and that one day, you will give an account to the Creator.

Confess your sin!
"If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness" - 1 John 1:8-9
